Baby Lucus is finally one!   We both celebrated our birthdays this past Saturday.  I was pretty bummed I couldn’t make his first birthday party.  I had his mom bring him over the next day though so we can celebrate with a cake smash (or in this case a cupcake smash).  It was messy, but it was fun.   Happy 1st birthday Lucus!  We’ll coordinate our birthdays better next year =).  I can’t believe he’s one, check out more of Lucus over the past year.

Normally I would sleep in a little on Sunday mornings (although I try not to), but little Lucus came by to visit so I had to get the place all tidy.  Lucus will be seven months old in just a couple of days.  He came bearing with a surprise too.  He’s already got his two little lower front teeth, hence all the drools.  I snapped a couple photos of him with my new 35mm 1.4L and 100mm 2.8 macro lenses.  I love the macro lens so much (I love the 35mm too).  The reason why is because it doubles as a nice portrait lens as well.  That way I’m not all up in the poor kid’s face with my camera.  The first image was taken with the 35mm.  With that face I can only imagine Lucus saying “lady, what’s that thing you’re putting in my face?”  The rest were taken with the 100mm macro lens.  I was able to keep my distance and give Lucus his space.  I love that I can observe and document from a distance and still get the close-up shots.  I’m sure my cats will agree to that as well.

Meet three weeks old baby Lucus Maximus!  I finally got the chance to meet him this past Sunday.  I’ve been sick and I didn’t want to get anywhere near a newborn.  Well, I decided to bring my camera along hoping I could snap some pictures of the little gladiator.  He weighed in at a whopping 9.5lbs!  I’ve been waiting to meet him since last winter when his momma Michelle told me I need to get pregnant so that we could be pregnant together.  That’s how I found out baby Lucus was on the way. I’m sorry I couldn’t make that happen, Michelle.  Maybe with your next one =). Anyway, photographing a newborn baby seems easy enough right?  I was so wrong!  I was nervous, scared, and frustrated all at the same time.  There’s a lot of idle time involved waiting for the perfect moments.  Also, the baby cries, needs feeding, wets the diaper, and does the other thing in the diaper. Pretty much a lot of patience is required.  Plus, they’re a fragile little being!  After taking these pictures of Lucus I made up my mind any request for newborn pictures is likely out of the question, but after seeing how precious baby Lucus is it makes it all worth it!

Happy Halloween!  For you trick or treat-ers here’s a treat for you.   Two weeks ago we did a family portrait session with Michelle, Jack and baby Lucus.  You may have remembered this three weeks old cutie.  Baby Lucus is now three months old and was all ready for his second photoshoot debut.  Check out his little skeleton outfit!  He had a back-up monkey suit too, but unfortunately we wore him out and the outfit change didn’t happen.  When Michelle approached us to take her family photos she wanted a Fall theme with the Fall colors.  Lucky for us it’s the season for pumpkins and we found the best pumpkin patch to work with.  It was actually the second pumpkin patch we stopped at because the first one was insanely packed with families, cars and crazy drivers!  Super glad we had the second pumpkin patch to fall back on.  It was definitely much more quiet, peaceful and infant-friendly.  Anyway, I was so excited when Michelle and Jack showed up and dressed their part for the fall/farm theme.  I didn’t expect it at all.  This is when I knew we were going to have some fun.  Actually, what am I saying… all of our photoshoots are fun haha!  We got very lucky with the weather.  It turned out to be such a nice and beautiful Fall day.  Dry and sunny, which is a rare thing in Fall!

The other day on her Facebook status Michelle exclaimed that she “loves life!”  It’s not very hard to see.  An adorable baby, a hot momma, a proud daddy and one happy family =).  It’s such an honor to be able to capture these kinds of moments and milestones in people’s lives.  It’s really one of the main reasons why I love doing what I do.
